1976 saw huge changes in the Gremlin, not in what it gained, or changed but, in what it lost. In 1976 AMC did away with the V-8, and left the Gremlin with only six-cylinder options. This change was done about half way through the year. One must wonder at the wisdom of this change, as I believe it was the inclusion of the V-8 that gave the Gremlin such longevity.
Was it the best year-model?
Minor changes were made in the X stripe design. The portion that extended out over the wheel well now included a distinctive X inside the stripe. The Levi’s version continued to be produced with no appreciable changes.
